Dunmow Ambulance Station
Gt. Dunmow is a town with a current population of over 6,000 and is expected to grow to 9,000 in the near future. It is situated in a rural part of the County of Essex, South - East England, nine miles from Chelmsford and the M11 motorway. Click to view local map.
The town is most famous for the Dunmow Flitch Trials where a couple are 'tried' to see if they have lived together without argument for a year and a day. If they are successful they are presented with a side or 'flitch' of bacon. This tradition now takes place every leap year and is believed to have first started in 1751.
